Packing Right for Your Winter Honeymoon
(ARA) - You made it through the wedding, so now comes the relaxing part -- your romantic honeymoon in a faraway destination. But what do you pack and how much do you need? Gone are the days of multiple suitcases stacked at the doorway to accompany you on your flight. With airlines charging fees for checked luggage, today’s friendly skies will only allow you just so much, so you’d better make the most of your checked bag and your carry-on.
There are three basic honeymoon destination types: A beach honeymoon, the mountains honeymoon and the city honeymoon. Each one requires careful pre-planning on your part to make sure you have enough, but not so much that you wind up forking over extra cash at your airline’s check-in counter.
If the beach is your destination -- a great choice for all the northerners who spend most of the winter digging their driveways out from under mounds of snow -- there’s a chance that you may have to carry on all your items if you or your spouse want to bring along the golf clubs. But have no fear, it can be done.
“Chances are you’re just going to be at the pool most of the day, so two swimsuits, a wrap or two and flip-flops will take care of most of your daytime needs,” says Anne Hankey, a fashion marketing & management instructor at The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago.
Hankey also suggests neutral T-shirts, sexy dresses that can be dressed up or down, shorts, a couple of skirts and a pair of casual and dressy sandals. Don’t forget your sunglasses, a small, unique “statement bag” and a big bag you can use as a carry-on, on the plane and as your beach bag once you get to your destination. If you have room, Hankey also suggests a big collapsible hat, but you can always buy one when you land.
And what do you wear on the plane when you’re taking off in sub-zero weather and landing in a heat wave? “My favorite trick is to wear black exercise clothes,” says Stephanie Schuller, fashion marketing and management instructor at The Illinois Institute of Art -- Chicago. “They’ll insulate you so in cold weather they’ll keep you warm and they can keep you from sweating in warm weather because they are designed to regulate your body temperature when you work out.”
If you decide to head to a winter ski resort on your honeymoon, you can still keep your bulkier winter wear to a minimum. Hankey suggests you pack your ski boots with your skis in your checked luggage. “Wear your ski parka on the plane with a nice pair of jeans, a sweater and casual boots.
Bring two pairs of leggings and a few thermal T-shirts to layer under your parka when you hit the slopes and don’t forget your socks, gloves and ski goggles. “Pack a few sparkly tops or tank tops that you can pair with the jeans you wore on the plane and don’t forget your swimsuit for the hot tub,” says Hankey.
Schuller also suggests a matte jersey dress that can be rolled up and won’t wrinkle for one special night out. Just throw in a pair of dressy heels to wear with the dress and jeans and a pair of flip-flops for the hot tub and you’re ready to go.
If you decide to jet off to a destination like Paris or New York for your honeymoon, Schuller stresses you should not forget to bring along a pair of comfortable and stylish shoes on your journey.
“You can pack a little more, because you won’t have golf clubs or skis in tow,” says Hankey. She suggests you wear jeans and flats on the plane, along with a simple sweater and dressy jacket or coat. Bring a pashmina in a fashionable bag as your carry-on.
Your suitcase should contain a couple of simple dresses. “Wrap dresses work very well because you can roll them up,” says Hankey. Don’t forget your basic black slacks and a variety of thin tops and sweaters that can be dressed up or down. “Jewelry and a Hermes scarf can really transform an outfit,” she points out.
No matter the destination, Hankey stresses that you should always take along travel size toiletries -- they’re usually under the three-ounce carry-on limit and take up little room in your checked bags.
Schuller adds, “Don’t forget to allow room for souvenirs, because if you over-pack, you can’t bring anything new home.”
Both Hankey and Schuller have one last piece of advice: don’t forget the lingerie. As Schuller points out “it’s not like it takes up a lot of room.”

Alternative To Bridal Bouquets
You know, I'm always up for unique, breakaway from "the norm" trends.
Here's one I've been pushing and encouraging brides to consider for a while now, however it appears to just now be catching on.
That is "wedding parasols" or a "rice paper parasol" as an alternative to bride bouquets and bridesmaid bouquets.
Don't get me wrong. I love wedding flowers, and bridal bouquets, but a change that is not only gorgeous, and eye-catching once in a while to throw you off - is nice! Very nice!
If you must have flowers for yourself and to match your bridesmaid dresses, consider the wedding parasols, but provide a wrist corsage for each of your bridesmaids, and a small carry bride bouquet for yourself as the bride. See photos below as an example of this.

Having A Winter Wedding?
There are many couples who choose to have a winter wedding. There are also some very good reasons to plan a wedding in the winter. The number one reason being - "It's often cheaper!"
When I think of a winter wedding, I think cool colors like blues, silvers and whites. Of course a winter wedding can be any theme or colors you wish. I'm just a dreamer and love a real-life fairy tale every now and then. Notice the photo above for example: Gorgeous! The golden light and tones creates a sense of comfort and warmth. Just imagine your guests sitting in a room decorated like that. They'll talk about your wedding reception for the rest of the year! Wouldn't that be great? Notice that each guest table has a golden tree decorated with hanging crystals, and hanging votive candles. Takes your breath away doesn't it?
If you have a cool fairy tale winter wedding in mind - I thought I'd share some possible ideas.
1. Think lots of lights (white lights), and blue lights - EVERYWHERE!
The photo above is not even a good enough example (it's a bit too simple), but I do like the usage of the Japanese Paper Lanterns in the ceiling. Granted this would be a lot of hanging work, but worth the time.
All I can say about the photo above with the usage of blue or violet lighting is that it screams "winter wonderland" - Wow! I think that however your budget (if not large) might be better off with the golden tree idea (as seen in the very first photo above). Flowers are much more expensive than golden painted trees, and candles.
2. Don't forget about the power of candle light.
Candles always create a relaxing, warm mood for the atmosphere. I imagine white candles of all heights and widths centered in various locations and tables (not necessarily as the centerpieces), but an accent to the overall decor. You can have floating candles placed in water with blue food coloring in it. The blue water will cast wonderful blue beams of enchanting light.
3. The wedding cake should be a center of attention!
4. What is a winter wedding - without a winter wedding dress?
5. The Wedding Flowers.
A popular flower to go with during the winter seems to be white cala lilies, however it would be nice to accent them with another complimentary color from your wedding color theme. You can do this easily with some colored ribbon, or bouquet jewels from your local florist shop.

Fresno Wedding With Autumn Decor
November 8th was the wedding day of Brandi & Marko!
The weather was perfect and slightly warm, with just enough clouds in the sky to provide the perfect shade for their outdoor garden wedding ceremony. The couple chose warm fall tones that really set the mood for a relaxing day for their guests.
After the ceremony that lasted approx. 30 minutes, the couple had a few quick wedding photos taken by their photographer, and then mingled with their nearly 200 guests outside the reception venue with some drinks and Hors d'Å“uvres
Brandi & Marko had the opportunity to have a sneak peek at their gorgeous wedding reception decor before their guests were allowed to come in and be seated. The couple's response to the decor was full of oooohs, and awwws. The full design took their event designer (The Divine Event) the entire night before, plus most of the wedding day to complete.
The special mood lighting, combined with the warm rich colors chosen by the couple created a relaxing, romantic atmosphere that would please all who entered. From the wedding flowers, to the wedding linens, and lighting everything look immaculate.

(ARA) – Good news for brides inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, classic is back. Fabrics, silhouettes and accessories borrowed from the 1940s through 1960s offer brides the opportunity to start with the basics and enhance them with luxurious finishing touches. The Wedding Dress Eschewing large, modern swags of fabrics, designers are embracing the hourglass figure. Waists are nipped in or defined with belts and sashes, often in a color that slightly contrasts with the dress. Charming gowns with the look of prom dresses from the 1950s glide down the aisle with fitted bodices and full skirts of tulle, lace and applique. For a less formal wedding, brides can go bombshell in frocks reminiscent of 1960s cocktail dresses. The length is shorter, but the look is equally sophisticated with gathered waists and narrower skirts. The Accessories Birdcage veils -- with large netting that falls at cheekbone length -- are back in a big way. These simple veils frame the bride’s glowing face and highlight special jewelry. Ladylike wrist-length gloves are the perfect complement to vintage bridal looks. The classic bridal look is a perfect match with a simple and elegant pair of pearl stud earrings and a lustrous 16-inch strand of cultured pearls around the bride’s neck. “The Hindu Lord Krishna is said to have offered pearls to his daughter as a wedding gift which is where pearls and weddings were first married,” says Jeremy Shepherd of PearlParadise.com, the world’s largest online pearl company. “Pearls are considered a symbol of purity, making them the perfect fit with a bride’s white dress.” Shepherd recommends white akoya pearls, a saltwater pearl that grows primarily in the coastal areas of Japan and China. Considered to be the classic pearls for jewelry, akoya pearls are prized for their perfect round shape, mirror-like luster and soft, neutral colors. Visit http://www.PearlParadise.com/ for more ideas and classic bridal pearls. The Look Tie a classic dress and accessories together with a polished hairstyle such as a bun or chignon and keep make-up understated. Dark brown or black eyeliner extended slightly past the end of the eyelid, a touch of black mascara and a shade of red lipstick perfectly matched to the bride’s complexion are all that’s necessary to complete the perfect, classic Hollywood face. The Empire Waist Wedding Gown Is Your Best Friend
Are you the average woman? I mean, are you short to medium in height, and weigh approx. 140 lbs. (give or take a few pounds)?
If so, you may be facing the delimma of what type of gown to wear to your wedding or to a friend's wedding that will be flattering to your figure.
Well, the Empire Waisted Gown, or dress is nothing new, and appears to be experiencing a come-back in wedding style trends.
What makes the empire waisted gown so flattering?
1. Since the waist falls just below the breasts, the natural waist is not a focal point, and therefore unwanted bumps and lumps are smoothed out in appearance.
2. The empire waistline creates the appearance of a longer torso, and this is also slimming to the figure.
Other features of a dress to consider that are flattering to a fuller-figure:
1. Rather than choosing a sleevless wedding dress which can accentuate flabby arms, or arms that are a little more plump than desired - consider a dress that has sexy off the shoulder sleeves. This gives you the feel of sleevless, but with a the added covering of either short or long sleeves to hide part of the arms.
2. Choosing long, sleek lines rather than a big poofy bottom to your wedding gown can also make a slimming difference. I'm still referring to an empire waisted gown of course (not the image above). Combining an empire waist with a long, floor-length sleek bottom to the gown can also be very flattering, however if you are very full in the hips and thighs you may want to go with a slightly higher poof - perhaps with some added layers.
It's always important to try on several gowns before making your final choice. Remember your loved ones will not always be honest with you in regard to how you look in a gown (so as to not hurt your feelings), that is why it is so important to do your style research.

Wedding Financing?
OK, now I've heard it all, but I guess, considering the increasing cost of living, and the current economy, something's gotta give. I recently read about wedding financing, that is borrowing money to fund your wedding expenses. WOW!
I'm curious if any local Central California brides have considered this and or actually done it?
Please let me know, I'd love to hear from you.

Wedding Loans: Perfect Finance Option for a Perfect Wedding by:

After seeing each other for years and being tagged as ‘in love’ since eternity, you desire to bring this to a logical end. You are wrong if you think I am suggesting a divorce even before you are actually married. The end to every love is wedding -the wedding of two bodies and two souls.
Have you been planning your wedding since a long time but have been hindered because of the huge cost weddings entail nowadays.
Worry not. Spend as much as you can, because wedding loans are there to pay every penny of the expenses.
The average wedding costs anywhere between $19,000 – $27,000. This may go much higher if one is planning to have a gala wedding with all the pomp and show included.
And why shan’t one. Wedding is a once in a lifetime event. People would take all efforts to make the wedding truly memorable.
But the society and the customs have changed much. Just as the parents or guardians lost their say over the choice of bride or groom, they have little to do in the planning and financing of the wedding. So it is the couple who does all the spending on the wedding.
So how do the couples bear the expenses of wedding, in spite of being new to their professions and low on the income graph?
Wedding loans are an effective tool in their hands which they use to pay the entire wedding expenses. Wedding loans can finance practically every wedding expense right from the elegant wedding dress to the exquisitely beautiful engagement ring, from the lavish reception to the impeccable church decoration.
There are a number of other expenses which seem insignificant if seen individually, but become difficult to repay when taken in totality. These can be very easily paid through wedding loans.
Besides, wedding loans can be a much cheaper option to use for the payment rather than credit cards or past savings. Using a credit card can be simple if one goes by the immediate outcomes.
But when the credit card debts are due for payment you find them to be much more than what you really spent. No, the credit card company is not indulging in any king of overcharging or cheating. This is only because of the accumulation of interest. Payment through credit cards is just like drawing a loan, but at a much higher rate.
Utilizing past savings for a one day affair like a wedding would be a waste. It could have been a lot better had the past savings been used for some productive purposes.
A wedding loan allows the customer to enjoy two benefits. The first benefit of wedding loan is that the customer will not have to pay an exorbitantly high amount. Most of the lenders offer loans at reasonable rates of interest.
The second benefit is regarding the timing of payment. Even though a customer has to pay more than what he would have spent, he accepts this because he does not have to pay the whole amount at one go. Monthly payments require to be made towards the payment of loan.
A certain amount of planning is necessary when taking a wedding loan. If parents are ready to be a part of the finances then they must be included in discussions. How much can they spend on the wedding needs to be decided well in advance. This will determine the amount of wedding loan that needs to be applied for.
Secured wedding loans taken against ones home will be much cheaper. A valuation of the home or property will be done. One can draw loan depending upon the worth of his home. However there are options for those who do not have a home or who do not want to put their home under any kind of obligation.
Next comes the choice of lenders. It is no longer necessary to depend on lenders in one particular locality or region. Almost every big and small lender is available online. An internet connection is what is needed. One does not even have to leave his home or office, and loan can be applied for instantly. Such a relief from the previous times when a customer had to go to each and every lender to just get the quotes. Few customers were ready to go through this grind, and hence accepted whatever offer was given.
These loans are very easy to approve. With the valuation of property and credibility check over, it is very easy to get loans approved. Filling up each and every detail with caution and accuracy can save enough of time in the approval process.
Did you promise your wife an impeccable wedding ring? You can keep on the promise since wedding loans are there to meet the expense.
Summary
Wedding loans have two benefits. They are cheaper than any other option of payment. They do not require customers to pay the expenses on wedding all at once.

I've worked in the wedding industry now for over 20 years now, and have noticed that no matter when in the Central Valley, whether Fresno, Visalia, Modesto, or even Yosemite, couples don't realize that they CAN have their wedding at some of the most beautiful wedding locations and banquet halls within their budget.

I know what brides and grooms want. Over 21 years ago, I was once a bride too. Brides and grooms want it all, and then some, and often on a limited budget. Unfortunately, these couples think that they have to sacrifice quality in the face of budget, but what they don't realize is that planning far in advance, and prioritizing can enable them to have their cake and eat it too.

1. First I recommend that they consider hiring a professional wedding consultant who can help them to stay withing their budget.
2. If you need more than a wedding planner - Consider hiring a wedding designer, or event designer. Why an event designer? Well, simply put, event designers are the ultimate package in one. You can get coordination services if desired, combined with party rentals, and decorating expertise and services for one great package price, that's why.
3. Choose a California wedding location or venue that provides areas for both your wedding ceremony, and your wedding reception. Also, consider whether or not the reception venue offers in-house catering services as well. This package type thinking can actually save you money.
4. Choose a wedding venue that is beautiful to begin with, and save money on your decorating bill. That's right, the decorating bill can add up when you have to dress up a less than attractive venue. Save money, by choosing a gorgeous wedding location, and you will see that you can have the wedding of your dreams within your budget.
